Scope Blog
I read the article "Call of Duty" by Michael Paterniti in a Scope magazine. It was about a dog handler Jose Armenta and his German Shepard, Zenit. But this isn't any story about a dog handler, its about Jose and Zenit risking their lives fighting for the US Army. They sniff out IEDs in Sangin, Afghanistan. But one day a step by Jose changed his life forever. It would be his last step he would take and a last step that he will remember for the rest of his life. I thought that Call of Duty was an inspiring story that made me realize how a dog can become your best friend in a blink of an eye. Zenit had a strong connection with Jose even after Jose's legs were amputated. He felt the pain that Jose felt when he stepped on the IED because Zenit laid next to Jose when he was on the helicopter flying to find hospitality in Germany. This tells me that the theme of this story is friendship and family because friends are there during tough
times and it is stronger when you work together as a family. Jose and Zenit have a very strong connection as friends, but they act like they are from the same blood the way they work together as a family. This theme connects to me because my baseball team is a family. When we lost a game it was because we struggled to communicate as a family. But when we won it was like we were brothers to end. That's why we won the championship and we came out as champs, but we also came out as a family.
