Holocaust Novel Blog

Summary

For my Holocaust Novel, I am reading The Diary of Anne Frank. Anne Frank is a teenaged girl who goes into hiding during WWII. The Nazi Party is looking to send Jews to Concentration Camps everyday. The Frank family is accompanied by the Van Daan family. The group experiences burglars breaking into the Office that is below them. They are staying in a "Secret Annexe" upstairs that is provided with very little food and entertainment but is provided occasionally by Miep Gies. Everyday, families are torn apart, many people are dying, and bombs are dropping into their area everyday. The two families are scared for their lives, just waiting to get caught by the SS or the Gestapo. But on the positive side, more and more ground is being recovered by the Allies. Also, Anne is going through the adultry stage in life and is starting to form a relationship with Peter. In fact, they've already kissed!

Contrasts and Contradictions

In the book, Anne was acting nervous and anxious. She was acting like this because depression was hitting her. Anne is usually the type of person to set a goal and chase it but have fun in the process. But around the 1940s, that usually doesn't happen unless you survive. Everyone knows the story of Anne Frank and WHAT happened after. But they DONT know what she was thinking and feeling. Or what dreams she wanted to chase. Just like how Gabriel Iglesias said, "People always wonder what they're going to say BEFORE they die. The thing is, they don't think about WHAT they did in their life to remember them and define them.

  1. That is an interesting contrast and contradiction - and it makes sense why she started to change during her time in hiding. The quote you added was interesting, but don't forget to add the end quotation marks so we know when the quote ends.
